Sierra Leone Athletes

FREETOWN: Aug 8 (SALONE TIMES – 232news.com) – The Birmingham Commonwealth Games came to an end yesterday with no medals for Sierra Leone in the games. Sierra Leone registered up to 7 sporting disciplines for the above games with 27 athletes both men and women. In the events some made it to the quarter-final stage which was the highest stage they went and majority went out in the first stage. Though they failed to win medals majority improved on their personal best. Few among them were Julius Morie (Athletics) who in the All Africa Games in Rabat 2019 recorded a time of 10:91 seconds in 100M. In the Birmingham Games 2022 he recorded a time of 10:88 seconds. Ibrahim Karim Bangura (Athletics) in the West Africa ECOWAS Regional Championships in Niamey 2019 he recorded a time of 10:88 in 100M events. In Birmingham he clock a time of 10:55 seconds. Hafisatu Sahid Kamara in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in 100M she clock 12:1 seconds and clock 11: 80 in the Birmingham Games, Jenifer Fatmata Bangural clock 12:23 seconds in the 2018 Africa Youth Games in Algeria and clock 12:00 seconds in the Birmingham Games. The swimmers also did not win medals but improved on their personal bests in their various events. Majority cast the blames of the poor performance of the athletes on the lack of good facilities as the only stadium was closed before the kick-off of the games for rehabilitation. The delegation may return home this week.
