A Ghanaian national, Lawal Mensah, appeared before Magistrate Sorie Momoh Sesay at the Kamakwie Magistrate Court on Wednesday 14th August, 2024 to face two charges under the NPAA & CTF Act of 2022 and the Wildlife Conservation Act of 1972, as amended.
Mensah pleaded guilty to both counts, which involved illegal dredge mining within the Outamaba Kilimi National Park (OKNP), a protected area.
Representing the National Protected Areas Authority (NPAA), lawyer Dauda L. Bangura Esq. emphasized the gravity of the offenses, stating that activities within and around the OKNP are strictly prohibited. He reaffirmed the NPAA’s commitment to curbing illegal activities in all protected areas across the country.
The case has been adjourned for judgment on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
