FREETOWN, Aug. 3 (SALONE TIMES) – It is often said that what is good for the goose should be good for the ganger but it seems as that is not the case of Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police, Ambrose Michael Souvula.
When Richard Moigbeh was the IG of the Sierra Leone Police, he was relieved off his duty when he reached the age of retirement.
His deputy Daboh was also shown the door upon the age of retirement of the Sierra Leone Police which is 60
It is no doubt that the current Inspector General of Police Ambrose Michael Souvula will turn 60 this August.
Ambrose Souvula confessed this last year when he was interviewed by the Parliamentary Appointment committee in Committee Room No 1.
Souvula who was responding to question posed by C4C Member of Parliament, Hon Paul Sam about his age, told the committee that he was born in August 1961 for which he will be 60 this August.
Furthermore, Hon Amadu Kanu told the Inspector General of Police that his retirement was August this year but the then Chairman of the Committee now Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament Hon Sidi Yahya Tunis interrupted and informed the Members of the Committee that it is the prerogative of the President to extend the term of Office of the IG irrespective of whether his term of Office will expire this year or not.
Despite the concern of those Members of the Committee on appointment, IG Souvula was approved and subsequently subscribed to the oath of office.
Meanwhile, it is believed that the current IG as he reaches retirement age this August will be given contracts by the Police Council for which many believed is not good for an independent police force.
