The Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) on Wednesday 15th Feb 2023 launched two Banking Products in Sierra Leone at the SLCB Head office in Freetown. This is part of their 50th Anniversary Celebration. 

In His welcome statement, the chairperson and Board Member of the Bank, Dr. Julius Spencer noted that the Bank was established in February 15th 1973, which is now 50 years old. He continued that at that time the Bank started in a small space and then the Bank complex was constructed. He furthered that the building was the tallest building then in Sierra Leone. 

The Chairperson of the Anniversary Committee, Olayinka Philips, said they have maintained their Brand and have made progress in the digital space, and above all they have kept their clients. She furthered that they want to better and improve service delivery for their customers. She noted that it is a practical and moral challenge for their time and their obligations for their customers must be revisited. She encouraged staff of SLCB stronger by not only taking advantage of the bank products but also the new products being unveiled during the celebration period. She said she wanted to challenge all stakeholders of SLCB to be inspired by their jubilee celebration. She stated that by the next jubilee the SLCB would become the next Pan African Bank. She concluded by saying that they can make SLCB an International Bank.

A staff member of SLCB Glenna Adeyola, launched the two Banking products and also gave the description of the two products. She announced the two products; MI YONE SENIORS ACCOUNT and MI YONE RETIREMENT ACCOUNT. She said the products are focused on the retired pensioners who are saving with them. She said they currently have 60-70% pensioners who have been with them. She noted that they will cater for them to save more. She furthered that MI YONE SENIORS ACCOUNT can be opened either as Savings or Current Account. The initial deposit she said is Le 50 and noted that they reduced Commission Turn Over (COT) charges of 1.5 % on a current account, and 8% on a savings account annually. She pointed out that the requirements were; duly completed application forms, valid Identification Cards, NASSIT ID Cards, Utility bills for proof of address and Two passport sized photograph. The MI YONE RETIREMENT ACCOUNT, she said is a savings account that allows the holder to save without withdrawals for a particular period geared towards the account holder’s retirement or when they stopped working. She maintained that savings in this account can be done whether the person is employed or not and can be in the form of a standing order. She listed the features of the account as Long term savings, cheque book, VIP card and dedicated teller if the deposit is above Le100,000, one free statement request per year, Automatic sign up for Visa card services, and SLCB MobileApp, Access to their ATM. she said the initial deposit is Le 100. 

The current Managing Director of SLCB, Yusuf Sillah thanked his staff at SLCB for their work, and also thanked their customers for banking with them. He encouraged more customers to be banking with them.
