Report reaching SALONE TIMES has revealed that Passport Production have been stalled at the Immigration Office in Freetown for weeks because of poor infrastructure.
The report revealed that the building is unfit for purpose and that it is heavily leaking as the rains continue to pour.
The leak has caused serious defection at the building as water got into cables and destroy the Standby Generator and other major printing machines.
“We are even afraid to put the light on because we don’t want fire to engulf the building,” a source within the Immigration Office confirmed.
The state of the building is even frustrating the effort of officers to ensure that passport is produced and do other immigration duties.
“Water is in the cable, any efforts to put on the light will get the building engulf with fire,” another staff stated.
They said although the Chief Immigration Office, Alhassan Kanneh is using his own personal funds to upgrade the office but that the current state of the building is frustrating him.
Investigation has revealed that a contract for the rehabilitation of the Building was given by the last Minister of Works, Peter Bayouku Conteh but up till now no work has been started.
That all efforts to get on to the said contractor have proved futile.
The continuous down pour of rain has seen the collapsed of some buildings in Freetown for which people are calling government to look at some of the aged-old building housing government offices.
