FREETOWN, June 13 (SALONE TIMES) –Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) U-17 Boys league kicked-off on Thursday at the POW School ovals. The U-17 Boys are divided into four clubs named after the memories of their departed coaches and a play.

The four clubs are Sahr Momofoe Kpundeh CC former head coach of the senior national female team and the head coach of the Police Female Cricket Club, Cyril Panda CC former U-19 Boys national coach and former Chairman of Crusaders Cricket Club, Alex Kennie Musa CC a former grassroots coach and head coach for Crusaders CC and Haroun Kamara CC a former U-19 and Mid-West CC player.

On the opening day of the league, Momofoe Kpundeh defeated Alex Kennie Musa by 21 runs at the POW Ovals. The match at the Kingtom Ovals was postponed as most of the players were on national exams.

In the above match, the Momofooe Boys won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored 174 runs loss of 9 wickets in 35 overs. Alex Kennie replied with 153 runs all out in 31.5 overs. George Sesay of Momofoe CC who scored 55 runs off 61 balls won the man of the match award.

Eric Musa Turay of Alex Kennie and Mohamed Turay of Momofoe took 3 wickets each.

On Friday Momofoe won their second match defeating Cyril Panda CC by 132 runs at the POW Ovals. Momofoe batted first and scored 197 runs all out in 34 overs. The Cyril Panda Boys replied with 62 runs loss of 8 wickets in 16.4 overs. The match result was decided by the Duckworth Lewis law due to bad weather. At the Kingtom ovals, Haroun Kamara defeated Alex Kennie by 25 runs. So far onto the time of going to press on Saturday Momofoe was leading the league table with 4 points in 2 matches played, Haroun Kamara with 2 points in one match played. Alex Kennie with 2 matches played and Panda with one match played are lying in 3rd and 4th position respectively with no point. The league will continue today Monday 6th June at both ovals.
