FREETOWN, Aug 3 (SALONE TIMES – 232news.com) – Four swimmers from Sierra Leone qualified for the ongoing Birmingham Commonwealth Games in England. The four were registered to take part in two competitions in the games. Among the four, Joshua Wyse an Olympian competed in the Hit1 of the 50m Butterfly and Isha Kanu competed in the 50m women’s Breast Stroke.
Joshua came 5th out 7 swimmers with the time of 29.71 while Isha in the hit 1 of the women’s Breast Stroke of two swimmers came second with a time of 48.66.
On Saturday Titi Dumbuya another Olympian competed in the 50m Free and fly strokes Hit1. Among the 8 swimmers Titi in lane1 came 8th with a time of 31.27.
After collating all the times recorded by the swimmers, the three swimmers failed to make it to the next round of the competition.
But the president of the association Mohamed Turay said they still have one more chance each and he believed they will correct their mistakes and make Sierra Leone proud in their next event.
Meanwhile in boxing the male boxers got a bye to the round of 16 which started yesterday Sunday with John Browne in the 63 kg category fighting the winner between Alex Michael and Alston Ryan Atingua but the result was not known onto press time.
Tomorrow 2 August, Yusif Deen Kargbo 67kg will bout with Luwis Zakeyu Mbewe from Malawi. The female boxers who are in the quarter final round will take the ring on Wednesday 3 August with Sara Joo battling with Teddy Nakimuli from Uganda in the 50kg bout. Zainab Keita will face Kaye Frances Scott from Australia in the 70kg bout.
