FREETOWN, Oct. 11 (SALONE TIMES) – Mighty Blackpool on Wednesday lost to SLIFA FC 1-0 at the Siaka Steven Stadium. The only goal came in the early minute of the first half through defensive blunder.
Before the match, Blackpool was in 14th position with 11 points in 11 matches played. The host SLIFA FC was at the bottom of the league table with 8 points in 11 matches played.
Because of their positions in the league table, both teams were equally determined for victory and nothing less.
A win for Blackpool would have elevated them to the 12th position with 14 points in 12 matches played but they lost the match by 1-0.
The victory for SLIFA FC took them out of the relegation zone with 11 points in 12 matches played and single point ahead of the relegation zone.
Few minutes after the match Management of Blackpool released a press statement that they have relieved the entire technical team out of their duty, they appointed Blackpool’s former player Musa Kallon as the acting head coach of the team for the remaining five matches in the first round.
According to the release, the management will view Musa’s contract after the first round of the league.
The management appealed to their fans to exercise patient as serious negotiations are on the way to sign players and a coach following the next rounds of the league.
Majority of the fans and officials outlined that the greatest problem with the team was goal scoring which they said the coach has failed to amend.
A member of the management said they were also disappointed in the performance of the players because according to him, they have put all motivation mechanisms in place with an increment in salary and bonuses for any draw or win but still no improvement.
