FREETOWN, 26th May, (SALONE TIMES) – Hon Bai Kurr Kanagbaro Sanka 111 of Tonkolili district revealed that ECOMED Laboratory center at Kingharam Road in Freetown is owned by Sierra Leone Government.
Hon Sanka 111 made this statement at the well of Parliament last Thursday May 20th 2021 while contributing to the ratification of the Treaty for the establishment of the African Medicines Agency dated 11th February, 2019.
He continued that ECOMED has been hijacked by someone who is running it as a private entity, noting that he has documents which he would provide to parliament.
That 60% was given to government, 20% was given to the public while the 20% was given to the Ghanian doctors more than ten years ago.
That he listened to the BBC in which it was revealed that 75% of the drugs coming into the country are expired drugs.
That the Minister of Health has a lot of work to do because there is no scanning machine in the whole country.
The Speaker of Parliament Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu thanked the paramount chief for providing that information to parliament, pointing out that he should give the documents to the committee on Health and sanitation within four weeks so that the committee can investigate and report to parliament.
