Brig. General Kanu: A Career of Distinction and Resilience

Brigadier General K.F. Kanu, the current Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for Training, Doctrine and Education, has etched an impressive career marked by exceptional service and unwavering integrity.

From his early days as a second lieutenant to his current rank, General Kanu has consistently demonstrated excellence. His standout appointments include Commanding Officer of the Military Police Regiment at the Rank of a Captain. An appointment he held with so much success that he got promoted to a Major and later a Lieutenant Colonel which earned him the address position of Provost Marshal. He was later posted to main steam infantry as CO 2 Infantry Battalion in Kenema. His professionalism earned him respect across different levels in the military.As an Alumni of the university in the south ( Njala), he offered free service as a part time lecturer at the faculty of international relations whilst he was CO in Kenema. Upon completion of his tour as CO he proceeded for an international assignment where he equally served with Distinction, serving as Senior Military Police Adviser to the UN Force Commander and Sierra Leone’s Senior National Representative in a major peacekeeping mission. He was promoted to Colonel and recalled home to successfully help develop a newly established brigade, were he oversaw the 2023 elections as Chief of Staff. He again completed his Eastern tour, was appointed Director of Logistics at the Ministry of defense and later appointed Acting Assistant Chief of Defence Staff for equipment support. During the initial phase of the tri service transitioning, he was appointed Training , education and Doctrine Commander (TRADOC) where only a few weeks in post his formation won the RSLAF inter service drill competition.

He shortly faced grave allegations but were thoroughly investigated by the military, the Sierra Leone police and the office of the DPP all of which resoundingly cleared General Kanu, showcasing his integrity and strength of character. His exoneration underscores the power of resilience and commitment to duty.

General Kanu’s story is a testament to the strength of true leadership, forged in the fire of challenges. His career serves as an inspiration, reinforcing trust in institutions and the pursuit of justice.
