KENEMA – Chairman of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Energy Hon Kekura Vandy said that during their oversight visit in Kenema the committee found out that Capitol Food has been involved in electricity theft.
Capitol Food produces Sierra Juice and Sierra Water.
In Port loko the committee also visited the Bankasoka dam and they realized that only two turbines are operational while the remaining two have problems.
Chairman of the Committee called on the Director General of EDSA to pay attention to Bankasoka dam.
Hon Vandy said the committee went to Port Loko Teachers college together with EDSA and they realized that the college owed Le 36 million to EDSA
That there was an agreement between the college and the engineer that the college should be paying the sum of Le 6 million on monthly basis to offset the debt but the committee was not comfortable with it because they are using the power as and when they like.
The Chairman told the registrar of the college that if they did not pay the money, they are going to order EDSA to disconnect the college because EDSA is not running a charitable organization
“Students are paying fees to the college, they need to pay EDSA,” he stated.
That when they went to Buya’s hotel in Port Loko, the committee found out that there was no meter, but they are using direct current for which they agreed to be paying Le 3 million per month.
The Chairman said he wants to crave the indulgence of the Director General to provide MDI meters for those customers otherwise, they will continue to beat a dead horse.
The Chairman advised EDSA Staff to be visiting those big businesses because they involve in electricity theft.
