FREETOWN, July 25 (SALONE TIMES) – Few weeks back, Unisa Deen Kargbo in a Chef De Mission seminar in Turkey praised the President and the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee in Sierra Leone for their religious tolerance.
Unisa went on that Dr. Patrick Coker and Joseph Nyande are both Christians but say they have been very supportive to see that Sierra Leone take part in the upcoming Islamic Games in Konya, Turkey.
The Games will kick-off on the 9th to the 18th August 2022. Unisa said even though there is no support to NOC for the Islamic Games, the NOC executive has been supportive to the above Games committee with the little they can do.
The cordiality among them, he went as they also have Muslims among the executive has made the preparation simple. Beside the above, Unisa said the Islamic Games does not just target Muslim athletes but open to all athletes.
Unisa called on the Sports Ministry and the National Sports Authority to support the delegation so that the athletes will have the chance to showcase their talents among top athletes in the world.
Addressing the various sports in one of their meetings, the Secretary General of NOC Joseph Nyande said one good thing about the Islamic Games is that they cater for all religions.
He called on the government to give full support as it an opportunity to showcase their athletes. For this year, he said sporting disciplines that did not qualify for the Commonwealth Games will now have the chance to take part in the Islamic Games in Turkey.
