232NEWS, FREETOWN —
Staff at the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary (TCS) are reeling from the theft on 20th July 2023, of the organization’s brand new Toyota Land Cruiser, essential for chimpanzee rescues.
Without a suitable replacement, their ability to save the lives of endangered chimpanzees and carry out critical field operations is severely compromised.
Tacugama has launched an appeal to reach out to all their supporters for funds to replace the vehicle, which is vital to the day-to-day operations of the organization. Bala Amarasekaran, the founder and Director of the Tacugama Sanctuary, speaking from the United States, said:
“The theft of this vehicle is a huge blow to the operations of the sanctuary. Without it, we will not be able to carry out rescue missions. It’s crucial that we can get a replacement as soon as possible.”
He appealed to supporters for help getting a replacement vehicle as soon as possible.
Tacugama is an integral part of the law enforcement and awareness-raising efforts for the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) in collaboration with the National Protected Area Authority and the Ministry of Environment & Climate Change.
