FREETOWN, May 20 (232news.com) – Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone H.E. Hu Zhangliang, was invited to the Professional Ethics Seminar held by the Independent Media Commission of Sierra Leone. on May 18, 2022. Sierra Leonean Ambassador to China H.E. Ernest Ndomahina, Chairman of IMC Victor Massaquoi, President of SLAJ Ahmed Nasralla, Commissioners of the IMC and other dignitaries also graced the event.
In his statement, Ambassador Hu warmly congratulated the Sierra Leonean government and people for the progress and achievements in the information sector in recent years. Ambassador Hu said that China and Sierra Leone are time-honored reliable friends. Over the past 50 years, China and Sierra Leone have always maintained a close partnership featuring sincere friendship, equal treatment, mutual trust and mutual benefit. He elaborated that China-Sierra Leone cooperation is of four major features, i.e. sincere friendship, visible outcome, no political strings attached and credit-worthy.
Ambassador Hu informed the audience that last year China’s economy maintained rapid recovery and development, with its GDP reaching 17.7 trillion US dollars, an increase of 8.1% over the previous year and accounting for 18% of the world’s total. For a consecutive of ten years, China’s annual average contribution to global economic growth has stayed above 30 percent. He said that in 2022, China will adhere to the general principle of pursuing progress while ensuring stability and try to register a 5.5% growth.
Ambassador Hu explained China’s position on Russia-Ukraine conflict, saying that China is committed to promoting peace talks, calls for a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities and supports Russia and Ukraine in carrying out direct dialogue. He pointed out that the ins and outs of how the Ukraine issue has evolved to what it is today are very clear. The moves by the super power-led NATO have pushed the Russia-Ukraine tension to the breaking point.
The Ambassador disclosed that certain people wanted to make more trouble by deliberately comparing the Taiwan question with the Ukraine issue. He stressed that the Taiwan question and the Ukraine issue are not comparable at all because Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory.
Ambassador Hu illustrated the content and significance of the Global Security Initiative put forward by H.E. President Xi Jinping not long ago. He pointed out that this initiative provides China’s wisdom and solution to make up for the global security deficit and will help guard world peace and tranquility.
Ambassador Hu also talked about the legitimacy of China’s dynamic zero-Covid policy and cleared the clouds on some suspicions and attacks on China-Sierra Leone fishing cooperation.
In conclusion, Ambassador Hu encouraged the media practitioners to continue reporting China and China-Sierra Leone relationship in an objective and fair manner so the Sierra Leonean people can get the right information about China’s development and the fruitful results of China-Sierra Leone cooperation.
