FREETOWN, Oct. 25 (SALONE TIMES) – The NaCOVERC Chairman Hon. Sheku Bangura has authoritatively said that the third wave of the COVID19 in Sierra Leone has been put under control. “The curve has finally been flattened,” Hon. Sheku Bangura said authoritatively. The NaCOVERC Chair was speaking to journalists and members of the Civil Society on Tuesday 19th October,2021 at the Bank Complex Kingtom in Freetown. He highlighted the gains Sierra Leone has made since the third wave which started in June through July and sometime in August this year which included low case level, low positive rate, low quarantine and increased vaccinated persons. He said it is because of these gains that Sierra Leone has been removed from the UK Red List. He however warned that these gains were fragile and that caution should be taken. He allayed fears over the vaccine noting that there has not been any registered death from the vaccine. “We are not out of the woods yet,” he said and used the opportunity to encourage all to take the vaccine. The Vaccine Pillar Chair at NaCOVERC Dr. Tom Sesay while giving an overview on the status of COVID19 in the country revealed that 449,925,000 (Four Hundred and forty-nine Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty-Five Thousand people have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine. 195,925,000 (One Hundred and Ninety-Five Thousand Nine Hundred and Twenty-Five people have been fully vaccinated and emphasized the importance of taking the full dose of the vaccine. He commended FOCUS 1000 which with support from Africa CDC for deploying 103 vaccination teams throughout the country.
