FREETOWN – Craving 4 Development during their Ignition hour, season 3, first edition engaged youth to discussed drugs and alcohol use and misuse.

The event which took place at the Pearl Restaurant, Lumley Beach Road on Saturday 10th October marked the World Mental Health Day.

The event took the form of Panel discussion in which the Chief Executive Officer of Craving 4Development Aminata Kane Balde served as host and Elizabeth Agatha Musah-Conteh. Founder and Executive Director 4Her Initiative and Sahid Bangura Co-founder and Director CODaP served as guests.

Lot of youths were present in the one hour 30 minutes discussion and thrown questions to the panelists.

Bangura said half of the admission cases in the mental home stemmed from drug abuses.

Bangura advised that the best way for one to control their mental health is to love themself because happiness comes from within and for one to control his or her mental health, one must not pay attention about what people say about them.

Elizabeth said drugs use is about mindset, focus and know who you are.

“Get a focus as young people and know who you are, be yourself and determine for the future you want to attain for yourself. Self-motivation is good keep doing that and push for yourself”.

The Ignition Hour Social Entrepreneurship Project was launched on November 30th 2018 at the 50/50 group headquarters and the first edition of the TV series was held on December 1st 2018. We started operating on personal funds as we believed in the vision and would give ourselves the means of proving it to both beneficiaries and like-minded organizations.

After 3 episodes at the 50/50 headquarters, the demand rose to bring the show to the Lumley Beach Road, especially at the Pearl hotel where the attention of our audience started to rise and to reach the current stage it is in.

In May 2019, we attended a job fair in Fourah Bay College and realized the lack of communication skills in the young people who were interested in finding jobs with the represented companies and organizations and the idea of adding the career development courses to the TV show was born.

The Ignition Hour Project started its third session this October 2020 with a renewed emphasis on all the components and a special one on the Mentoring Program. A web TV is created for the promotion of the project and Season 2 is on now.
