The Western Area Cricket School League kicked-off at the Kingtom Oval in Freetown. In all eight senior secondary schools in Freetown have registered to take part in the inter-secondary school league.
The eight schools have been divided into two pools of four teams each. In pool A are St. Edwards Senior Secondary School, Albert Academy Senior Secondary School, Government Senior Secondary School and SL Grammar School. In Pool B are POW Senior Sec. School, Collegiate Senior Sec. School, MBHS Senior Sec. School and Government Model Senior Sec. School.
Two schools from each pool will qualify for the semi-final stage. In the opening match today, Government Senior Sec. School will host St. Edwards Sec. School from pool A. in the morning and in the afternoon from pool B.
POW the defending champions will host Colligate school at the same Oval. The participating schools will rest tomorrow and on Wednesday there will be four matches at two venues.
Two matches will take place at the Kingtom Oval and two matches at the POW School Oval in Kingtom. On Wednesday, in the morning Albert Academy will host SL Grammar School at POW Oval and at the Kingtom Oval, Government Model will host MBHS.
In the afternoon, Albert Academy will host Edwards School at POW Oval and at the Kingtom Oval, Government Model will host MBHS in the afternoon.
According to the league coordinator Edward Marah the league format will be a round robin with a 15 Overs match each.
The technical committee will use the above league to select players for the ACA upcoming U-15 &U-17 international competitions.
