By Bockarie AllieuFREETOWN, Aug 27 (SALONE TIMES) – The Sierra Leone Cricket Association on Monday started a three days Criio Crickets development program at Police Wives Multi-purpose Hall in Kingtom, Freetown. The three days workshop was organized to train facilitators who in return will train PE teachers and the community people to train beginners in the schools and the communities how to play cricket. In all 57 participants took part in the training among them were 55 men and two women. According to the Cricket Chairman Francis Trevor Samura Criio Cricket program was introduced by ICC Europe to train beginners how to play Cricket without the Cricket barriers. In this case he said they will train them without the Cricket normal procedure like playing with crash, gloves, tie pads, side pads and without the need of standard playing field. The above program he said will attract the beginners with fun fear in the game. The Chairman said it could be easy for them to manufacture the equipment locally which they will need to play the game. He went on that after the three days’ workshop the facilitators will be now targeting 600 school teachers in the regions who in return will train the school pupils how to play the game. Some of these regions he said already have the equipment to start the training while the package for the other regions will soon reach them. Samura confirmed that they are to do the training program in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic Education. By so doing he said cricket school leagues for primary and Secondary schools. He said they have a target of getting 100,000 participants and the 31st December is the deadline to get the above number. Among the 100,000 participants after scouting the talents among them they are sure of getting 10,000 players which is 10% of the 100,000 participants. In the second program he said they will include more girls who were absent in the first workshop.
