Hon Juliana Fatorma of Kenema district has revealed that four people at her constituency have been killed by crocodiles.
Hon Fatorma made this statement at the well of Parliament on Friday August 9th 2024 when the Member of Parliament rose on Standing Order 23, informing the speaker that her constituents are suffering in the hands of crocodile.
In an Interview with Journalists, the MP from Kenema district said that her constituency cover part of Lower Bambara and Malegohun chiefdom, explaining that there is a river called Male which is a crossing point where the Crocodile hang around and get rid of people.
Hon Fatorma explained that she witnessed one while he was crossing the bridge with her vehicle.
She explained that she heard people shouting while crossing with her vehicle which cause her to step down the vehicle and she saw a crocodile holding a small boy on his head in the water but they could do nothing.
The Member of Parliament noted the seriousness of the situation for her constituents which has caused panic and that is the reason she raised the issue at the well of Parliament.
She said that she wants people to come to her aid to help her as there maybe people who have idea on how to get rid of crocodiles.
She explained that her constituent said that the crocodile was not in the river but has relocated to the river from another area, pointing out that her constituent said that she must buy a boat which will create noise in the river, so it can drive the crocodile away.
She revealed that she had bought the boat but they need 8 to 15 horse power machine to drive this crocodile away and that is the reason she raised the issue may be government or any other organization can come to her aid to resolve this problem.
She highlighted that the crocodiles have been in that water but they have never been killing or damaging people, but this one is scary but that thy have asked people not to go close to the bank of the river, noting the river is a major crossing point for people and goods.
