By Allieu Bockarie The former executive of the Sierra Leone Handball Association on Saturday organized an elective congress to elect new executive body to run Handball. Before the election as per their constitution the executive informed their members to nominate candidates for the various positions before the deadline of the nomination. According to the electoral commission of the above election nominations were made for all other positions before the deadline except for the position of president and few others. The executive ordered the electoral commission to close the nominations after the deadline which they did. A fraction in the handball association headed by Solomon MH Katta complained to the Sports Ministry that the executive have denied them their right to contest in the election. To maintain peace the Director of Sports Haroun Korjie appealed to the executive to include all those who want to contest. On the day of the election most of the fraction members absconded from the congress with a new plan to stop the congress when it reach election time. Solomon who vie for the presidency against AG Koroma was outside the hall making calls according to claims to alert the Police. Few minutes into the election process Solomon enter the hall with group of Police officers who claimed they have a Police with order from the above to stop the election. But the former president of Handball and NOC Dr. Patrick Coker and other Sports personalities who were around engaged the Police officers and explained the procedure of the elective congress. The Police officers later see reason and allow the election to continue. After the election AG Koroma for presidency out of 27 votes got 26 votes with one void vote, Teddy Campbell went unopposed for the post of Vice President when Alphajor Bah and Mohamed Sah Koroma failed to turn up. For the Women’s representative Aminata Turay pooled 24 votes, Mariama Mansaray 2 votes. John AG Elliot and Michael Bangura failed to turn up with Hassan Munu going unopposed for the post of Treasurer. For Secretary General Mohamed BG Corgay got 21 votes Anabi Yusuf Kamara got 4 votes Mualaya A Kamara was absent. Idris Okeh Conteh went unopposed for the post of Assistant Secretary General, Christopher Femi Cole was retained unopposed to continue as the PRO.
