The Freetown Waste Transformers SL Ltd (FWT) officially launched the first-ever digital waste management mobile application for Freetown, ‘The DortiBox App’ on Wednesday, 17th May 2023 at the new Freetown City Council building.

The DortiBox app is a proprietary product of Freetown Waste Transformers (FWT), an integrated waste management company delivering waste-to-energy solutions in Freetown.

According to the Founder and CEO of FWT, Mrs Aminata Dumbuya-Jarr, she stated that “It is FWT’s mission to transform the waste management industry by incorporating digital solutions that facilitate ease of processes across the waste management value chain and provide real-time data which can lead to effective planning, while simultaneously providing a novel and integrated approach to tackle the pressing concerns of waste management in the city and ultimately for the entire country”.

The app is a result of FWT’s collaborative efforts with key partners, such as the Freetown City Council and the Waste Collection Management Association, to create a public digital good tool that is both effective and efficient.

In March 2022, FWT emerged as one of ten winners out of a pool of 1,400 applicants globally for the GSMA Innovation Fund support program. The App is a digital public good tool that will facilitate real-time data. This, in turn, will enhance the planning and funding opportunities while simultaneously providing a novel and integrated approach to tackle the pressing concerns of waste management in the city and ultimately, the entire country.

Statements were made by partners such as the Freetown City Council (FCC), World Bank Resilient Urban SL Project (RUSLP), Directorate of Science Innovation and Technology (DSTI), and Mobile Network partner (Orange Money Finance SL Ltd).
