Although there isallegation from few people that the NOC election was stage managed, the outgoing president of NOC Dr. Coker said before the election they met in a semi congress with the members to amend the constitution and adopt what they agreed on.
In the congress, he said they unanimously agreed to take out some clauses that were not necessary for the election.
During the mini- congress, they announced the dates for the nomination of candidates for the various positions and the date for the elections.
The election, he said went on well through secret ballot according to their constitution.
Apart from the election process, he said they amend the constitution to meet with IOC mandate which states they should have 30% quota of women in their executive which the new executive is working towards.
On whether he believes the new executive will do well to develop sports in the country, he said that is his greatest expectation from them.
He went on that he has worked with the incoming president Prince Sualley and he knows what he is capable of doing.
Beside his work as the NOC Treasurer, Dr. Coker said Prince Sualley hard work at his own association can testify that he is good leader.
He said the same thing about the other executive members of which he said if they work together in unity the sky will be their limit.
He though said for this new executive, the government has a lot to do as sports can’t develop well without facilities and funds.
He said the role of NOC is to oversee the activities of the various associations which according to him, is to build up the athletes and the NOC executive register them for the various international Games.
Dr. said when he came in as the NOC President his aim has always been to transform the NOC and to maintain transparency and accountability.
A reason, he said every year they allow their auditors to audit their earnings and expenditures. After every four years, the Olympic Solidarity will send their own overseas auditors to come and audit their account. All this, he said he is expecting the new executive to continue and do changes where changes is necessary. Dr. Patrick Coker will officially hand over power to Prince Sualley in January next year but will stay to give advises when they need him.
