The Vice Chancellor and Principal (VCP) of the Milton Margai Technical University, (MMTU), Dr. Philip John Kanu on Sunday 26th March 2023 offered prayers and thanksgiving for attaining 50 years at which service the preacher, Rev. Jonathan Davies dilating on the topic for March month birthday and wedding anniversary celebrants ‘Supernatural Supply’ said Christians must seek the face of God, be content, be givers, look up to Jesus and win souls.
The theme for the service was ‘Join me to Partner to Build God’s House Together’–Haggai 1:8.
Dilating on the principles of sacrifice, he said sacrifices are very crucial to one’s success, underscoring that without sacrifices it is difficult for one to prosper and described sacrifice as the act of giving up something valuable for one that is more rewarding in the future.
Rev. Jonathan Davies observed that it is not always true that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush and that learning is better than silver and gold stressing that one should not allow his/her circumstances to determine his/her situation and reiterated the need for all to make sacrifices and not to count the value.
According to Rev. Jonathan Davies, Christianity does not condone laziness, that Christians must honor God with their substances, that their 10% tithe to the church is non-negotiable and that sacrifices must be done out of love and gratitude and in self-denial without complaining.
In his brief statement, Dr. Philip John Kanu disclosed that his is the first person from his family to be educated to PhD level at 35 years, become a professor at 50 years as well as attain such a position asserting that he has also touched many lives and gave thanks to God Almighty for all his achievements.
He also cautioned the congregation to depend on God than pretend, be always ready to face challenges and that he is not bothered about what his critics say about him in the media as he is always serving God as a member of the church’s Health and Sanitation Department.
He went on to disclose that he is the only Food Scientist in the country with many publications to his credit and commended the church’s praise and worship team as well as the choir for their spectacular performances during the service.
The sister-in-law of Dr. Kanu, Mrs. Isata Jalloh, also born in the month of March, celebrated with him.
The service to celebrate people born in the month of March as well as those celebrating wedding anniversaries was held at the Harvest InterContinental Cathedral Church, 156 Circular Road in Freetown to give thanks to God who is their change maker and destiny changer as it was revealed that there are times when people go through challenges.
Highlighting facts about people born in the month of March, Justina Kanu described March birthday celebrants as the hottest and toughest, very affectionate, loyal, committed, take good care of their partners, have good friends, are creative, generous, full of energy and 50% serious.
The Vice Principal and Director of Studies at MMTU, Dr. Mohamed Alie Jalloh and other senior administrative staff attended the service.
Highlight of the well-attended service was the reading of the poem by one of the daughters of Dr. Philip John Kanu, Philippa Kanu for March birthday and wedding anniversary celebrants.
