With our life on earth, we are considered to be on a journey because we believe there is life after physical death here on earth, every journey has a destination. But the thing is we don’t have a single destination but we have two destinations and man can only end up at one of the destinations. These destinations are heaven and hell. There is the kingdom of heaven that is reserved for those that believe in Jesus Christ and His finished work, and there is the kingdom of hell for those that do not believe in Jesus Christ and His finished work, Mat 25:46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment(hell), but the righteous to eternal life(heaven).”.
So every sojourner on earth would at the end of his/her life end up in one of these destinations. So what is it that determines the final destination of a man? It is quite simple. Two words that determines this and they are FAITH and UNBELIEF. Man’s faith in Christ is what guarantees him a life in heaven after his life on earth. Man’s unbelief in Christ is what makes him miss heaven and have a place in hell, John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Many think sin is what makes a man miss heaven. In some way there is truth (half truth) but sin is not the problem now. Jesus has already saved the world from sin, so that any man that believes in him will be freed from sin, but a man that does not believe (unbelief) in him will remain in his sin and eventually miss heaven.
These destinations are eternal, so when a man dies, its either he spends his eternity in heaven or eternity in hell. But what I want you to know at all times is that, it is never God’s will for man to spend eternity in hell, cos His will is for man to spend eternity with Him, 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise…..; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance*. But where you spend you eternity depends on the choice you would make. So one may ask, how can I spend eternity in heaven?
The question above is the most important question to be asked and receive and answer to, which is what I’ll do. I believe many people if not all would want to make heaven but don’t know how to, or what to do. For a man to go to heaven, he needs to be saved from sin and it consequence which is death by faith (believe) in Jesus Christ and his finished work through his death burial and resurrection, Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
A man is saved by believing in Jesus because there’s no other name under heaven or earth that a man can be saved, Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Secondly it is only by Jesus that a man can enter the kingdom of God and meet the father (God), *John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: NO MAN COMETH UNTO THE FATHER, BUT BY ME* check John 3:3 also. So in conclusion, a man can only spend eternity in heaven by faith in Jesus Christ and His finished works.
This is the goal, and I believe everyone will prefer to spend his/her eternity in heaven. But there is a tendency for some people to miss heaven and spend their eternity in hell. So today we will look at what makes a man to miss heaven and spend eternity in hell. Well like I said in the previous teachings, that for a man to go to heaven, he needs to have faith in Jesus Christ. In other words he needs to believe in Jesus Christ and his finished work, (Romans 10:9). Hence when a man does not believe in Jesus and his finished work, that man will miss heaven. In short man’s UNBELIEF is what will cause him to miss heaven.
There are many that think that sin is what will make a man to miss heaven. In a way yes but that is not the whole truth. UNBELIEF is what makes a man to miss heaven. Man generally is in a sinful state because of his nature, so when that sinful man refuses to believe in Jesus and his finished work, that man will die in his sins. So sin is not the reason because Jesus has dealt with it already, but UNBELIEF is. That’s why scriptures says in, John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
From the scripture above, when you look at it keenly you would noticed that man generally is in a perishable state(man is bound to perish), but then because of what God has done through his son, there is now a provision for all men that will believe in Jesus, to not perish but receive the life of God. But anyone that does not believe in Jesus Christ will perish as scripture says. UNBELIEF is what makes a man not to enter the rest of God (heaven), Hebrews 3:18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
This series Faith and unbelief is the centre theme of the Gospel message (The way to make heaven). Today many preachers and teachers are propagating the wrong message. They are preaching sin, rather than God’s love expressed in salvation.
Ministers of the gospel should stop causing fear through sin by the messages they preach. The message is not a sin message through fear. The message is a salvation message through love, (John 3:16). God does not want his people to be afraid, he wants them to feel loved. There is no fear in love, (1 John 4:18). The message is one that does not preach condemnation for Christ came not to condemn the world but to save it, John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
Sin was the problem but sin is not the problem now. Sin can never be the problem again. Let me make it clear now. The devil came and brought sin which has the consequence of death. Christ came to defeat the work of the devil, 1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. So sin has already been dealt with. Jesus Christ came and defeated sin.
Man is not saved to fight against sin again, neither to remain sin conscious. Man is saved to live the victorious life in Christ and have a beautiful relationship with Jesus. When you keep fellowshipping with Jesus, you don’t make an effort to stay from sin; rather you grow past sin seamlessly. The problem is many believers are not exercising their right of dominion over sin (Romans 6:14). Your struggle with sin is because of your inconsistency in the place of fellowship. Sin is not the problem now, unbelief is. Any man that believes in Christ and His finished work is saved from sin and death, and he/she will enjoy eternity in heaven with the Father. God bless you.
