President Bio and Fatima

By Thomas Dixon

As the battle to succeed President Bio is getting tense and serious within the ruling Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP), the wife of President Julius Maada Bio, Fatima Jabbie Bio has wadded into the succession struggle of her husband as she responded to what she described as a misleading article that went viral on social media last weekend claiming that she wants to succeed her husband as President.

She made a video message on her facebook page First Lady Fatima Bio on Monday 15 June where she denied having any intention to succeed her husband.

In what looked like a Public Relations Technique to test  the water, First lady noted that although what the author of the said article reported about her is true, she only has problem with the headline, FATIMA BIO FOR PRESIDENT, noting that person could have clearly pointed out that it was his/her opinion or not hers.

She explained that she read the article because so many people sent the article to her as normally she will not respond to such.

“From 2018, there are people who are always saying that I wanted to succeed my husband and that is why I am working hard but I have only one focus and one direction now and that is the Maada Bio’s direction,” she asserted.

She acknowledged that it is the people of Sierra Leone that are going to elect the successor of her husband, asking that they should now focus on the legacy of President Bio.

She said that her husband’s achievements are super good and that if they take their time to talk about them, it will be good for the party but trying to pitch her against her husband will not work.

She said that most of the time when it comes to Presidency whether it is the SLPP or APC as long as it has to do with women, everybody will become pensive and jittery, explaining that sometimes people are pensive when it comes to women and that is what she is against because women are capable and able to do the job.

“I am not a politician. I will come back to say it when I want to be a politician. My Agenda for now is to ensure that Maada Bio succeeds. Some people will write in good faith but others will misinterpret it ,” she emphasised.

However, she expressed her appreciation for thinking of her for such position, noting that she is not a politician and don’t want to get herself involved in politics.

She said that she is not looking to be a politician because there is a sitting president, pointing out that she is just a wife who merely obeys and supports her husband and that is what makes her a good wife.

She revealed that even before now people have been going to her husband with theories that she is  working towards succeeding him, stressing that whatever is out there is not from her  as there are people out there who are hungry for power and will do anything for it.
