(Source- SALONE TIMES) – Orange Money Sierra Leone has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA).
The signing ceremony occurred at NaCSA Headquarters in Freetown on Monday 13th March 2023.
Idrissa Turay, Director of Social Protection at NaCSA explained that the Social Safety Net is the country’s flagship project at the moment and that one of its Building blocks is the payment delivery system.
He noted that the Social Safety Net Project will phase out in June but assured that there is another succession project.
He explained that during the COVID period, they provided the Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT1 and ECT11) to the poor of the poorest.
He stated that ECT 111 is due to the Russian- Ukraine War which has resulted in the rise of food and fuel costs and that it will benefit 35,000 households in 11 districts across the country.
According to Director Turay, ECT111 will support households with persons with disability, female-headed households and elderly-headed households.
In his statement, the CEO of Orange Money Sierra Leone, David Mansaray said that they are excited to get to this point
“We have worked well with so many other institutions. We will ensure that every fund received is secured,” he noted.
He explained that apart from effective and efficient transfer of money, most institutions used mobile transfer for transparency and accountability, noting that Orange Money is the right platform that can provide transparency and accountability.
A statement was also made by the Anti-Corruption Commission of Sierra Leone and the signing of the Memorandum climaxed the event.
