FREETOWN – Following the yellow card warning issued by the operational wing of the Covid-19 fight, the enforcement measures introduced by NaCOVERC have fallen heavily on defaulters.

Past Thursday the team at Eastend Police moved to close shops that fail to pay their fines. Over four shops at Kissy road that failed to pay their fines after two warnings were closed for non-payment.

The Eastend Police team over two weeks ago warned 16 shops along the Eastend Police, Fourah Bay Road, Magazine Cut and Kissy Road to pay their fine after they received NaCOVERC yellow card.

The yellow card like a football is a warning for not playing by the rules of the game. This too was introduced by NaCOVERC before further action is taken.

Detective Edward Issa attached to NaCOVERC Eastend Police Team disclosed that they closed 5 shops along Kissy Road on Thursday; the shops include Idbetts Enterprises, Feifan Co. Ltd, Mount Zion Enterprises and Mikes Ikes Sister Shop among other.

NaCOVERC sealed those shops with the label “Facility Closed By NaCOVERC”

Detective Edward Issa went on to say for more than two weeks they have issued the yellow card but they are adamant to pay the fine. He said they have all the evidence against any shop they fined and asked them to pay their fine through Rokel Commercial Bank.

“We only asked them to show the receipt that they have paid; we did not collect money from any defaulter we only want to see the receipt”

He said when they paid, their shops were opened.

Detective Edward Issa pointed out that if they are patriotic Sierra Leoneans they should adhere to government measures.

“If you fall short, you have to pay the fine”

He continued to say most of those shops contravened the rules. Some shops, he said lacked Veronica bucket, Soap and clean water.

The shops that lacked those items were fined Le 500,000 and a warning was issued to them.

He added that five shops paid instantly at the Bank when they were fined while others were pleading for more time.
