In a press statement released by the executive of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) yesterday Wednesday 16 August, the executive said rumors going around about the appointment of a new Leone Stars Head Coach is not true.
The executive clarified that the FA has not made any new appointment of coaches/ Technical staff in the Sierra Leone national team.
They went on that the substantive head coach of Leone Stars John Keister will remain in charge of the team as his three years’ contract is valid until the end of August 2023.
That since his contract will expire a week before match day 6 of the 2023 AFCON Qualifier match between Guinea Bissau and Sierra Leone, the FA has decided to temporarily engaged Keister and his back room staff for their service for the said match.
The FA assured the public that they will communicate through their official media channel on any further information regarding the status of Leone Stars Technical Team after the Guinea Bissau –Sierra Leone encounter that will take play in Guinea Bissau early September 2023.
Before this release, there have been rumors going around the social media that the FA is set to announce Mohamed Kallon as the new Head Coach of Leone Stars.
The rumor went on that the delay to announce Mohamed as the head coach is that Mohamed wants to name his own back room staff while the FA wants to do all the appointment.
Beside Mohamed, other names also came up with some they say to be in the back room team for Leone Stars. Onto to the time of going to press, it was not yet known whether the FA will give Keister another chance after the Bissau match or they will change him.
According to one of the executive members the appointment of national team coaches should be done by the technical committee to be approved by the FA.
