FREETOWN, Aug 3 (232news.com) – The Freetown Waste Transformers (FWT) has successfully engaged randomly selected citizens/tester from five different communities, spanning across four wards; Ward 422, 427, 432, and 439, within Freetown, where the Beta version of the Waste collection software application will be piloted.

The engagement took the form of a focus group discussion, around the waste collection software application, on 28th July, 2022 at city hall, Wallace Johnson Street, a few days after FWT’s demonstrated an Alpha version of the waste collection software application to its GSMA partner.

The waste app being developed is a deliberate effort geared to digitalise waste collection across Freetown, Sierra Leone. The demonstration of the app was carried out by #MeDomot – a team of young Sierra Leonean software developers hired by FWT.

FWT’s CEO, Aminata Dumbuya-Jarr, informed her audience about the goal of FWT, as integrate waste–to-energy solutions provider in Sierra Leone, is to take all food waste and transform it into electricity, thermal heat, and fertilizer right at its customer’s doorsteps.

She said before they can do that they need to handle the waste collection in the city, emphasising that they are trying to cuts cost on energy, and waste management bills with a low-tech waste transformer.

Madam Dumbuya-Jarr, went on to say the project which will help deliver a tailor-made solution in garbage collection is being funded through a grant from, the GSMA Innovation Fund, supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO).

She extended FWT appreciation to participants for their timely response and the eagerness of seeing the waste app coming to reality.

Theodore, a member of the software developers in his presentation, described the app as one that is operating on two fronts, waste disposal and waste collection.

The app will be piloted within selected wards identified jointly with WCMA, with support from FCC, Sanitation Unit.

The audience was extremely excited about the innovative idea to digitalise waste collection, and could not suffer to wait anymore in anticipation of the Beta Testing of the Waste App.
