The Freetown Waste Transformers on Wednesday 15th February 2023 engaged the Aberdeen community on the newly developed waste management app called DortiBox.

The engagement which took place at the Aberdeen community centre brought together large numbers of community stakeholders and residents, local council officials, waste collectors and members of the Waste Collection Management Association (WCMA).

DortiBox is a waste management tool (software) that allows households to request and schedule waste management service from the comfort of their homes with any WCMA and FCC certified waste service provider operating in the city.

Aberdeen was selected to kick start beta testing of the App, as it is home to FWT’s first pilot off-taker Aberdeen Women’s Clinic (AWC), official partners’ with the largest humanitarian medical facility in the country, ‘Mercy Ships’ on Cape Road, treating organic waste at the heart of the city generating the largest food waste with the numerous up-scale restaurants, hotels, nightclubs and other tourist facilities.

DortiBox can be downloaded from both Google Play Store and IOS App Stores.

Participants described the engagement as an ‘eye opener’ as they pledged to fully cooperate with the FCC and other sector actors to ensure they follow proper sanitation actions and have their waste collected by certified waste service providers.
