Karate poses with trophies and medals

The Sierra Leone Karate Federation few weeks back took part in the West Africa Karate Championship zone1 and won 3 gold medals, 3 trophies, 8 silver medals and 11 bronze medals.

The president who leads the delegation Victor Amara said the Cadets won the 3 gold medals and 3 silver medals and that the rest were won by individual fighters including two female fighters Sofaya Amara and Catharine Sal who won silver medals.

In all, the Federation travelled with 21 man delegation. Among them were officials, Referees, Coaches and athletes. According to the President of the Federation Victor Amara, apart from the medals and the trophies two of their referees were certified as international referees after the referees course and one coach. This he said is always done before international competitions as only certified referees will officiate fights and only certified coaches will be with athletes when they are fighting.

Victor Amara went on that their performance in Senegal have qualify them to take part in the Africa championship in Morocco and in the World Championship with dates and venue to be announce later.

In preparation for the World championship, he said the World Karate Federation will be awarding scholarships to two athletes. While fighting for more scholarships, he said the others will be engage in Local championships to enable them select those that will represent Sierra Leone in the two championships.
