At the heart of Sierra Leone’s transformation agenda, Freetown Terminal Limited (FTL) marked its 15th anniversary with a grand celebration held at Country Lodge in Freetown on Wednesday, 18th March 2026.

Established in 2011, Freetown Terminal Limited has grown into a leading cargo port operator in Sierra Leone. A major expansion in 2016 significantly increased the terminal’s capacity, including the development of a larger container yard and improved parking facilities to accommodate increased cargo traffic.

In 2022, the company further strengthened its partnership with the Government of Sierra Leone through the construction of a multi-storey building, demonstrating its continued commitment to national development.

In her welcome address, Yvonne Elliott highlighted the company’s growth and its dedication to operational excellence over the years.

Delivering the keynote address, the Director of Cluster WAF, Captain Fabjan Kokan, reflected on the company’s 15-year journey, describing it as both challenging and remarkable. He noted that despite numerous obstacles, the company has thrived благодаря strong partnerships and a resilient workforce.

“We have grown not only in size but in strength and resilience,” he said, extending appreciation to staff and partners for their hard work and unwavering support.

Captain Kokan announced ongoing and future investments, including a 500kW solar energy project aimed at promoting sustainability. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, urging stakeholders to work together to drive continued progress.

“We will not stop. We will continue to develop the major port and strengthen our operations,” he affirmed.

He also revealed plans to acquire a new ship-to-shore crane to enhance port efficiency and capacity.

Highlighting the importance of human capital development, Captain Kokan stressed the need for investment in education.

“Education is key not only for transforming Sierra Leone, but for Africa and the world,” he said.

A documentary titled “Meet Our Heroes” was screened in honour of individuals who have contributed significantly to the company’s success over the past 15 years.

The anniversary toast was led by FTL General Manager, Maroun Abi-Aad, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Darrell Coker, who expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who have contributed to the company’s growth.

The celebration concluded with networking and a dinner reception.
