FREETOWN – Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nyelenkeh has assured Sports fans that government is on the plan to lift the ban on Sports activities.
The Minister said he put the ban on all sports activities when Corona outbreak hit Sierra Leone to stop the spread of Coronavirus in the country.
He went on that he has held a consultative meeting with NaCOVERC, the authorities in charge of the disease to see if it is timely to lift the ban on all sports activities.
The Minister said the outcome of the meeting was fruitful and he has already discussed it with the President of Sierra Leone HE Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio and that he too is in line to lift the ban but with all protective measures put in place.
The Minister said in the case of football they will start by allowing small number of fans to observe social distance and all fans should wear face masks including assistant coaches.
The Minister said the government is eager to see sports develop but at the same time they do care for the lives of everyone.
The Minister went on that apart from the resumption of sports with athletes, there are also other sports activities like going to congress which has been hinged on the lifting of the ban.
To all sports family, the pronouncement from the Minister is a welcome news especially football members who are eager to hold elective congress.
According to them, the SLFA executive is taking the ban as an excuse to hold onto power. In another way, the leagues will help to produce so many players for the various national teams.
