Sierra Leone Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC) and Smart Africa Digital Academy (SADA) have signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) to improve digital skills in the country.
The signing of the MOU took place on Tuesday 4th April 2023 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Freetown.
The cooperation will also support strengthening activities focused on improving the digital skills of selected groups within the country. Smart Africa is an ambitious initiative to innovate and transform the continent into a knowledge economy.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer (DG and CEO) of Smart Africa Digital Academy, Lacina Kone said the commitment of the Minister of Information to bring Smart Africa to Sierra Leone is very great.
He pointed out that for them to achieve digital skill, four components such as capacity building for decision makers, programs for digital inclusion, skills marketplace for professional and talent bridge for business is needed.
He noted that the Ministry of Information and Communications and Smart Africa Digital Academy has conducted training for Trainers (TOT) on Advance Big Data Analytics.
According to the CEO, 25 ICT experts in the public sector took part in the training and received International Certification, and two beneficiaries, one from DSTI and the other from the Ministry of Finance.
These two were also present at the signing of the MOU and also testified about the impacts of the training on their work.
Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Rahman Swarray, said President Dr Julius Maada Bio has emphasized in so many instances that Sierra Leone cannot afford to miss out on the fourth industrial revolution.
He maintained that the World Bank has supported with a $50 Million Transformation project to upscale Digital Training and Improved Broadband Connectivity.
The Information Minister pointed out that Sierra Leone can only achieve digital transformation through digital training.
The signing of the MOU between the Minister of Information and the Director General and CEO of Smart Africa climaxed the occasion.
