FREETOWN- Deceit, Rancor and violence blighted the nomination night of candidates for the Sierra Leone Football Association Elective Congress.

The rancor degenerated into violence which led to the stabbing of Victor Lewis, owner of Eastern Tigers Football Club allegedly by Augustine Kambo, senior official of Central Parade Football Club.

It is also believed that 7 applicants for the position of President and Vice President including Football Legend Mohamed Kallon and former Secretary General Western Area Football Association (WAFA) Kasho Holland Cole were rejected even before the Electoral Committee could meet.

The nomination of candidates to run the affairs of football in Sierra Leone ended last Friday 8 January 2021 at the FA’s Headquarter in Freetown.

According to road map of the election process, the electoral committee a day after the nominations will start to examine the nomination documents and will end the examination on the 31st of January 2021.

A day after the examination, those who have anything against any candidate will file in their appeals to the electoral committee.

The appeals submission will be closed on the 4th February 2021. The appeal hearing will start from the 5th onto the 8th February 2021.

According to the process, the final lists of candidates will be out either on the 10th, 11th, or on the 12th February 2021.

A senior sports analyst said that for the past seven years, there is nothing good to write about football in Sierra Leone.

This, he said was due to election malpractice that took place in 2013 which brought the present regime to power. Unfortunately, he said the present regime with all the appeals from the former president of the country did not work towards bringing back peace into the game.

During the past election process, some vital candidates for the top position were banned all, allowing Isha Johansen to be the sole candidate for the position.

At the end, he said Isha accepted that it was politics and that was the only way they could do to let her win. He went on that after that, instead of fighting for peace to prevail, they again imposed match fixing allegation on some members and players. At this point in time, the Sports Analyst said the authorities in charge should not allow the past to repeat again. He though warned that they should go strictly by what is in the constitution.

On the side of the electoral committee, he said he believes in the committee headed by the former Minister of Energy and Power Oluniyi Robin-Coker.
