The Sierra Leone Senior Women’s national Cricket team have returned home with the 3rd place trophy and with multiples of individual laurels from Lagos Nigeria.
The senior female Cricket team took part in the just concluded Nigeria Women’s T20 Invitational tournament in Lagos.
Five countries took part in the above tournament. Sierra Leone lost to Nigeria and Rwanda and defeated Ghana and in the end, defeated Cameroon twice to lift the third-place trophy.
Sierra Leone after defeating Cameroon in the group stage went on to defeat the same Cameroon Women’s team in the third-place battle by 9 wickets.
In the final match to Nigeria, after losing the group stage match to Rwanda, they went on to clinch the champion trophy from the hands of the defending champions Rwanda with a 9 runs defeat.
Apart from the third place trophy, Janet Kowa won 2 women of the match awards and was rated as the 2nd best bowler in the tournament, Best bowler of the tournament awards went to Alice Fillie plus 1 woman of the match award, Celina Bull was rated as the 3rd best batswoman after batting the only 6 runs and scored multiple runs in the tournament.
Three of the players Fatmata Parkinson (Captain), Celina Bull and Emma Kamara were named among the top ten batswomen of the tournament.
In the top 10 bowlers’ category, were Alice Fillie, Janet Kowa and Fatu Pessima due to their exceptional deliveries. Also, three of the players Alice Fillie, Fatmata Parkinson and Janet Kowa at the end were also named among the team of the tournament. Sierra Leone was the only country in the tournament to win a match with 9 wickets and have the only batswoman that batted 6 runs. The team arrived yesterday after spending a night in Ghana with 80% of the delegation. The remaining players and officials headed by the Chairman will arrive home today.
