FREETOWN – Sources from Niger stated that three in the Leone Stars contingent were tested positive on their arrival at Niger Airport.
The contingent departed Mauritania after a friendly match against the national team of Mauritania.
In all, 21 players, 12 technical members and 5 officials were in the delegation that arrived in Niger.
Among them, two officials Eric Fomba NSA Media Officer, Philip Kor the Masseur/ fitness coach and the team Captain, Umaru Zangalay Bangura were tested positive for COVID19.
Sources claimed that despite the slight injury against Mauritania, Zangalay was to play against Niger but was left out because he was tested positive for COVID-19.
According to medical authorities in Niger, the three patients should be isolated for 14 days until they test negative.
During the two weeks isolation period, they will be tested every 72 hours and if they tested negative, they will be discharged.
Apart from the three Coronavirus patients, the Team Manager Christian Dauda and the Team Doctor will stay in Niger to monitor the progress of the medication for the three.
The remaining contingent headed by the Sports Minister Ibrahim Nyelenkeh returned to Sierra Leone yesterday.
Back home, the team will be taking to camp to start effective training for the Nations Cup qualifying match against Nigeria away and at home in November this year.
The camp will also act as an isolation center to prevent the players getting affected with Coronavirus.
Meanwhile, it is yet unknown whether the government will allow few fans to watch the Leone Stars Vs Super Eagles match at home.
