Sierra Leone senior national football team Leone Stars will battle with the senior national team of Ivory Coast the Elephants today at the San Pedro stadium.
The team trained for some days in Abidjan before they travel to San Pedro on Thursday for the match. Sources claimed they trained at the San Pedro stadium yesterday for some few minutes.
Sierra Leone is in group G for AFCON 2025 qualifier together with the defending champions Ivory Coast, Zambia and Chad. The defending champions are leading the group with 6 points after two matches played, followed in second are Zambia with 3 points in 2 matches played, Sierra Leone is in 3rd position with 1 point in two matches played.
Sierra Leone has met with Ivory Coast recently in AFCON qualifier five times. Leone Stars drew two matches and lost 3 matches. In their recent meet in 2022 Sierra Leone forced the Ivoirians to a 2-2 draw in Ivory Coast.
In today’s match Sierra Leone is looking for the same draw result or a win if the opportunity comes. Few days after the match, Sierra Leone will host the Ivoirians in Liberia for the return leg.
In this match, Sierra Leone needs nothing less than victory to stand chance to qualify. According to the AFCON qualifier format two countries will qualify from each group.
