Students Prepare to Enter the Working Environment…

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has organised a two-day Career Fair for its students in order to prepare them for the competitive working environment.

This event helped student to interface with potential employers and recruiters. The event took place at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Campus.

In her statement, the head of campus Madam Agnes Mugo said that the event will help students to connect and interface with industries and potential employers.

She urged student to engage employers in meaningful conversation with employers, mentioning that the University has made significant progress in providing outstanding graduates for the job environment since its establishment in the country.

Speaking at the program, the Assistance Director of Communication for Ashesi University said that the Education Collaborative supports Higher Education Institutions in Africa to work together for better graduate outcome, adding that they also work to promote employability, entrepreneurship, ethics and leadership and faculty development and research.

She continued that this program supports and equips students while they are on campus so that they can be useful to society.

This help university to train student that are fit for purpose and employable, she said, calling on students to work hard and allow transformation in their life while in university.

She revealed that by 2030, Africa will be home of the largest youthful population, noting that more than 50% of African are youths.

The world is looking to Africa for workforce, explaining that Africa has a lot of resources that are yet to be tapped and the young people should be empower to be able to mine those resources for the prosperity  of the continent.

We are intentional to raise leaders that are ready to take up the mantle of leadership, she noted; disclosing that they have ten mandates at the Education Collaborative and by the end of 2030, they would have impacted over one billion students around the continent.

“We are targeting two thousand four hundred institutions in Africa,” she stated.  She said that they have impacted over three hundred and twenty thousand students since the start of their operation.

She urged authorities to collaborate with multi-national companies to discuss on how they should train students in order to meet the job requirement of different institutions around the world.

The representative from the Human Resource Management Office stressed on the importance of networking in university, adding that adaptability is also important in the job environment.

He said that communication skills are critical in the work place, pointing out that the work environment required formal communication.

He reiterated that communication plays significant role in conflict resolution in the work place. He called on student to master the ethics of communication because communication is the principle skills to get and maintain job in a competitive work place, admonishing students to take advantage of the career fair and connect with industry leaders and engage them in meaningful discussions.

The Head of Career Service Unite Tamba  Sesay Said that the University organised the career fair in order to link their students and graduates with industries or employers in order to engage in meaningful discussion.

Students have acquired different skills, ranging from how to write curriculum vitae, cover letter among others.

He mentioned that Limkokwing University is the first to organised career fair in the country, noting that this creates opportunity for students and industries to meet and discuss issues around employment.

He said that this will help students to understand what employers expect from a graduates.

Speaking to the press, a student Alphina Kanu of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology expressed gratitude to the University authorities for organising the career fair for them. She highlighted that the event has help them to learn many skills.

“This event has helped students to interface and engage leader from different industries in a fruitful discussion,” she said.

 She disclosed that they are equip and prepared to enter the work environment.
