FREETOWN, Aug 3 (SALONE TIMES – 232news.com) – The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education has made significant progress in ensuring that visual impaired students take both internal and external examinations with ease. Visually impaired students can now take their exams in Braille.

On a social media post, the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary School Education said that through Radical inclusion, Alhaji Kargbo took the National Primary and topped his school and his entire community in Dwozark.

Dr. David Moinina Sengeh added that core textbooks are supplied in Braille to students with visual impairment noting that critical government policies are also provided in Braille for the libraries. Learners with visual impairment have recorders and recorders to enhance their learning. These learning materials were supplied by Government of Sierra Leone and partners.

 Inclusive education requires all students to access and gain equal opportunities to education and learning. Inclusive education is about ensuring access to quality education for all students by effectively meeting their diverse needs in a way that is responsive, accepting, respectful and supportive. It is a process where students can participate in the education program in a common learning environment with support to diminish and remove barriers and obstacles that may lead to exclusion. Radical inclusion is transforming special needs education in Sierra Leone.

The Minister also pointed out that last year 100% from Milton Margai transitioned into Senior Secondary school. Learners with visual impairment now get their question papers in Braille and also write their answers in Braille

The Minister admitted that there are still challenges with special needs education but aims to do better in addressing those challenges.
