Sierra Leoneans are becoming increasingly disturbed over the way and manner things are spiraling out of control as the Government of Julius Maada Bio is trying to put the people under pressure.

President Bio is still facing legitimacy crisis both at home and abroad. Up till now, the opposition is still refusing to participate in governance, citing electoral fraud.

The outgone Ambassador of the United States of America also slammed the Govt of President  Bio stating that the US is concerned about the transparency and legitimacy of the 2023 elections results.

All of these issues coupled with hyper inflation and depreciation of the country’s currency to the United States Dollar continued to make things difficult for the people of Sierra Leone.

Just yesterday, Sierra Leoneans were told that fuel price has shoot up in quick succession from Le21,500 to 30,000 which has subsequently led to increase in the fares of transportation and the prices of other goods in the country, making things difficult for majority of Sierra Leoneans who before now found it very hard to get a day’s meal.

To get money, the government has introduced new taxes including the controversial Minimum Alternate Tax which has been described by tax administrators as Killer taxes

On Tuesday 29 August, the Information Minister Chernoh Bah told media practitioners that the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) has asked for more than 100% increment in electricity tariff.

This increment of tariff means that Sierra Leoneans and small businesses will be spending more on electricity than before.

Political Scientists believed that the reason for the excess pressure on the People is because of the bloated government President Bio has announced.

That Bio has appointed more Ministers than any other Presidents before him and at the same time created some small offices at State House in what he described as Presidential Delivery Unit to do similar functions like those in cabinet.

They said that Bio will want more money to run all those offices as well as the expensive lifestyle which he and his wife are living.

They cautioned that at this difficult period, serious government should be cutting down expenditures instead of creating new ministries, and patchy offices at State House.
