FREETOWN – NaCOVERC over the weekend embarked on Covid-19 publicity in Freetown.

Spoke person for NaCOVERC Solomon Jamiru said that Sierra Leone is effectively in the second wave of Covid-19 as people have been seeing that after the festive season there has been a rise in the number of Covid-19 cases, recording double digit figures.

He mentioned that as a country and as a response they have been very concerned about the general public, and they have come out with several measures in order to be able to address the second wave of Covid-19.

He noted that one important part in the response is how to communicate risk to the general public in order to be able to tell the general public on what to do to keep themselves, their loved ones and the community safe.

He explained that risk communication is a continuing process and it something that takes place before an outbreak, during an outbreak and after an outbreak.

He said they are in the continual process of emphasizing the Covid-19 messaging in order to update the public which is very important to comply with the health and safety measures and especially the measures that they have rolled out to help everyone to curtail the second wave of Covid-19.

He added that the reason why they focused on the western area is because the western area continues to be the epicenter of the virus.

He noted when they are explaining about the second wave of Covid-19, they are not only talking about the cases that is coming out but they are also admonishing the public not to get tired of putting on face mask

Jamiru said that these measures that NaCOVERC has put in place have created a good impact in fight against Coronavirus.

He noted that that if they curtail the movement for a certain period of time from 10 pm to 5am it will help greatly in the fight against Covid-19.

He added that that if the general public fully mask up and also observe the other regulations that is in force, they should be able to keep Covid-19 in check and that the best message that they are going out with to the public is of best interest to comply and that is the only way they can addressed Covid-19.
