FREETOWN, Apr. 11 (SALONE TIMES) –At the end of the five nation Women’s T20 International Tournament organized by the Nigeria Cricket Federation in Lagos, the organizers selected 11 best players in the tournament.
The selection was done base on the player’s performance in bowling and batting during the tournament. Among them five players were selected from the champion of the tournament Team Rwanda, 3 from the runner-up Nigeria, 2 from Sierra Leone, 1 each from Ghana and Gambia.
From Rwanda were Giselle Ishimwe, Ishimwe Henriette, Marueritte Vumillia, Sara Uwera © and Ingabire Sifa, Salome Sunday, Favour Eseigbe and Abigail Igbobie (WK) from Nigeria, from Sierra Leone are Mabinty King and Fatu Pessima, Felicia Serwaa from Ghana and Marie Sambou from Gambia.
Mabinty King, an open batswoman and a Wicketkeeper for the Sierra Leone Women’s team according to analyses in the tournament, scored the second highest total runs in the tournament.
She sets a record by being the first woman in the tournament to bat from starting of the inning as no 1 batswoman to the end of the 20 overs.
In that match against Ghana, Mabinty scored 59 runs off 63 balls. She was also the second player to score above half a century in the tournament.
In the first match against Nigeria, Mabinty scored 29 runs. In the match against Rwanda, Mabinty scored 11 runs. In the 3rd place match against Ghana, she (Mabinty) scored 30 runs off 49 balls.
Against Gambia, she scored 10 runs off 16 balls. Mabinty returned home with a bronze medal and a cash prize of $100 from the organizers.
Fatu Pessima a complete all-rounder can bat and bowl well. In the tournament, she won two players of the match awards. She took a total of 10 wickets in the tournament which made her to be the second highest wicket taker in the tournament.
Fatu in the round robin match against Ghana was the Star performer for Sierra Leone as she took 4 wickets conceiving 14 runs in 4 overs.
In the match against Rwanda, Fatu scored 10 runs but did not take a wicket in the match. Fatu took 2 wickets and conceived 3 runs in 2 overs against Gambia. Fatu returns home with two players of the match awards with a cash prize of $200 plus a bronze medal.
