The Officer Commanding the New England Ville Police Station and the entire officers and staff of the station on Saturday 4th February 2023, conducted a Cleaning Exercise at the New England Ville Community in Freetown.
While cleaning the Police station and community, Superintendent of Police and Officer Commanding, (O.C) Monica Emelda Johnson, said when she took up duty at the station, there was a lot of waste garbage in the Community, the station area. She decided to come up with the initiative to be doing cleaning exercise as she loves to clean. She continued that the cleaning is in collaboration with their Annual Awards Night and party scheduled for Friday 10th February 2023. She noted that the cleaning was a signal to people, not only dress from home to go out, but to always clean their homes and environment. She furthered that they started cleaning within the station; from the Investigation pool, the FSU Investigation pool, the Detention Centre, and right down the Community Centre. She noted that cleaning should be part and parcel of people and one should not wait on either government or leadership before embarking on cleaning.
The Administrative and International Commissioner of the Sierra Leone Scouts Association, Patrick Massaquoi, said they were a youth Voluntary Organization charged with the responsibility in order to transform young people to become good citizens. He stated that their key role is to be very clean in words, thoughts, and deeds. He noted that it is a theory, and they decided to translate the theory into practical realities. He said the O.C of the New England Ville police station approached them and asked them to jointly do the cleaning exercise. He said they saw that as a motivation, and collaboration effort in order for them to contribute the cleanliness in their community. He furthered that they came out in their numbers to ensure that the cleaning Exercise is done effectively and efficiently.
The ward Secretary of Freetown City Council, Ward 435, Abdul Jah, said his message towards the cleaning is the sustainability of the Cleaning. He continued that his own responsibility is to ensure that the cleaning exercise sustained.
The Chairman of Local Police Partnership Board, New England Ville Police Station, Mohamed, Bazzy Sesay, said it was an important day for them in the community through the O.C of New England Ville police station. He continued that the O.C has been coming up with initiatives that are always benefiting them in the community. He furthered that the Officer Commanding, Monica Johnson called a Community Stakeholders meeting, when she disclosed to them they should come together to clean the community. He stated that they all agreed to that, because it is very important to clean their community. He noted that they came together as a community with Six to Seven Zones under the O. C’s domain. He said they always advised people that are doing business in the community not to take any garbage from their homes and throw in the street of Freetown. He advised them to always have dustbins in their houses to place their garbage. He noted that they have tricycles that were always going out to communities to clear their garbage and called on community people to make use of the tricycles. This is the second time the New England Police Station is championing a cleaning exercise under the astute leadership of O.C Monica Johnson since she took over leadership of the station last year.
