Following the controversial appointment of the Chief of Staff in the Office of the President, Press Secretary, Solomon Jamiru has clarified the position of Chief Staff in President Bio’s government.

He said that the Chief of Staff leads the President’s executive front office and that he coordinates activities in the front office.

Among other things, he explained that the Chief of Staff schedules President’s meetings, overseas planning and execution of front office roles.

“He supervises His Excellency’s Executive Assistants and Personal Assistants,” he added.

On the other hand, Jamiru said that the Chief Minister post is the Governance Delivery technical arm in the presidency that interfaces with the broad range of governance institutions to ensure they deliver on their mandate.

On whether the office of Chief Of Staff does not add to the wage bill, Jamiru pointed out that it is expected that it will bring efficiency in the President’s front office, and the benefits would far outweigh any costs.

However, Sierra Leoneans believed that the Office of Chief Staff will add to an already bloated government and at the expense of an economy in ruin.

They question whether the President really cares about the people of this country at this difficult time, pointing out that when other countries are cutting down expenses, Sierra Leone is increasing expenses through duplicitous appointment.
