FREETOWN, March 11, (SALONE TIMES) – Addressing female athletes on the International Women’s Day in Freetown, NOC President called on them to not just end their sports career on being an athlete but push to be a sports administrator.
He told the ladies that a sport is not just about athletes but there are also officials and administrators. He went on that what the Association of National Olympic Committees In Africa(ANOCA) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are fighting for is to have more women involvement into sports administration as well as been technical coaches in sports.
The essence of this, he said they want to see more women also as decision makers in sports. He told them that to be an executive member in NOC one needs to be a president in any of the Olympic sports.
The NOC President went on that they have women qualified to be administrators but say the problem is that those who are qualified are not coming close to sports and that those coming close are either not qualify or not interested to be administrators.
He assured them that IOC is asking for 30% quota of women to be in sports administration and they are working on that.
