FREETOWN, Sep. 13 (232News) –Three Basketball athletes and a coach in Sierra Leone have been invited by the international Basketball Federation through the National Olympic Committee in Sierra Leone to attend this year’s youth camp in Abidjan-Ivory Coast.
The delegation led by Coach Patrick Subdafu will depart to Abidjan today 13 September. The three players are Saidu Musa Bangura, Isaac Kabba Turay and Victor Williams Alpha.
The three athletes and the one coach were presented to Dr. Patrick Coker, the President of the National Olympic Committee at the NOC Headquarter, Howe Street in Freetown.
In his statement, the President of Basketball Joseph Nyande said the invitation is a major milestone for Basketball in Sierra Leone.
He went on that the youth camp will help to expose athletes and coaches in Basketball to skill development. It will also serve as an opportunity to prepare for future international competitions.
He told the delegation to be very attentive and learn something that they will return home and share with the others.
Joseph Nyande added they count on FIBA and NOC for their usual support to enable them develop the game.
Dr. Patrick Coker thanked and congratulated the coach , three athletes and the association, noting that they were pleased to hear about their invitation.
He expressed hope that they will do well in the camp, pointing out that he always tells athletes going out to be ambassadors of the country by representing the country well.
Dr. Coker said they are looking forward to see them put up good behavior which will send good message about the country.
He told them that though they are not going for competition, he wants them to be vigilant in any activity they are asked to take part in so that the name of Sierra Leone will be put on the map of Africa Basketball. He ended up telling them to do well so that they will always think about Sierra Leone in upcoming programs.
