The Chairman of the Public Account Committee who double as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh said the committee will have to re-garnish money from business entities who failed to pay Goods and Services tax and other tax liabilities.
Hon Conteh made this statement on Monday 12th August at the Administrative conference room when the committee summoned forty business entities to ascertain whether they have paid Goods and Services Tax and other liabilities.
He explained that the Committee will have to write to all the banks to get that money and re-garnish money from the account of those who failed to appear before them.
Chairman explained that the reason for calling this business entities is to claim GST credits and GST arrears.
According to him, another reason is to ensure that the business settle the arrears or bring documents to substantiate that they have paid their tax liabilities.
He explained that despite they gave some of them time to clarify their tax issues, some of them have not done that, pointing out that they are mandated by law to garnish account and retrieve the money like they have done for other payment for over Nle30bn.
He noted that those who do not show will have themselves to blame because this is the second time the committee has put out press release on radio and television for business entities to come to parliament if their names appear in the audit schedule in 2022 audit report.
The entity that were in parliament Global Communication Consultant that owed NRA Le 9,042 for GST , Chicken Town owed Le 32m, Marco Construction Company and others also come along with documents showing that they have pay while some failed to appear before the committee.
