FREETOWN, Aug. 6 (SALONE TIMES) – Sierra Leone Members of Parliament recently ratified a treaty on the Establishment of Dakar-Abidjan Corridor among the Governments of the Republic of Cote D’ Ivore, the Republic of Guinea, the Republic of Guinea Bissau, the Republic of Liberia, the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Republic of Senegal. Presenting the bill to members of parliament the Minister of Works and Public Assets Peter Bayukuh Conteh has said that this treaty is 480 kilo meter road for Sierra Leone which is six lane it start from Rogbere to Balamuya this treaty was signed by the previous government in 2017 this treaty will link seven ECOWAS countries such as Nigeria, Dakar, Sierra Leone ,Senegal, Guinea, Liberia and Cote D’ Ivore also this road construction that will coming from Nigerian will have to link nine countries which constituted West Africa network for infrasctural development.
Mr. Conteh pointed out that with this treaty it will provide rail, Marine, energy and water which is 6.2% also with the passing of the treaty it will encouraged more trade in our country ,ECOWAS given them specific date to passed the treaty which is July 31st 2021, ECOWAS is going to managed the treaty while the Ministry of Works and Public Assets and SLRA will be supervising the project while ECOWAS will be focusing on the financier institution they would encourage public Private enterprises can get this project.
Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh in his contribution said parliament has ratified a treaty that is fixed for regional road this corridor and Statistics show that trade and capital investment is a whole lot of investment the amount spent on arrears, it is time they rely on trade routine linking Sierra Leone facilitated by road infrascture our GDP is on road.
Hon Conteh stated that the trade volume will increase in Sierra Leone Senegal the fancier considers the request they cannot released money without Sierra Leone did not signed this treaty the present and previous government has done well this agreement will benefit women, and Children.
Hon Hindolo Gevao said this corridor is important this treaty will help the women of this country especially on trade, we live in a global village inter regional trade will benefit Sierra Leone like they used to have the famous Koidu market just like Dubai it is until the outbreak of the war that market cannot exist again.
Hon Emerson Lamina said two years ago parliament ratified the West Africa Power pole when he went to Ghana they were talking about the Eco- Currency now they are ratified the treaty for six lane that will connect Sierra Leone in the West Africa Regional which is a good one. Hon Hassan Sesay state that they are aware of the West African Economy the present speaker is part of bringing the West Africa Power Pole that will connect Sierra Leone, the last parliament they ratified the CLSG, now they are ratified a six lane project that will link Sierra Leone to ECOWAS which is good for the previous and present government, governance is continuity.
Hon Chernor Bah stated that Benin has a port also closed to Nigeria.
