FREETOWN – Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Information and Communication summoned the Independent Media Commission (IMC) and the Sierra Leone Postal Service (SALPOST) to a meeting at the Administrative building Conference Room Parliament Building in Freetown.
Chairman of the committee Hon Boston Munda said that the purpose of summoning these two institutions is for the committee to look at their status report.
After officials of the Independent Media Commission (IMC) presented their summary report to the committee, Hon Munda asked officials of IMC whether they have supporting document because according to him, the report of IMC is just a write up that any other person could do.
That doing a report of such nature without supporting documents is very unfair to them as a committee as the work of the committee cannot be treated with levity.
That apart from providing the committee with scanty report, that even when they asked for the financial report, IMC provided Bank Statement.
The Accountant informed members of the committee that they are new in the process and appealed to the committee to give them time so that they can furnish the committee with detailed report.
The Chairman of IMC, George Khoryma appealed to the committee to give them time because it is first appearance before the committee, noting that they are in the learning process.
Hon Munda said IMC faced this committee last year so they are not new and that as for him IMC is treating the committee with levity.
The Committee also met with SALPOST and the Managing Director of SALPOS, Brima Keita said that the services they want to roll out is financial services with Sierra Leone Commercial and Rokel Commercial Bank. He said that they have held discussion to see if they can do agency banking because they have physical structure.
